The promise of January gave way to the reality of February. It’s expected that we tend to abandon our New Year’s resolutions by the time the season of Valentine’s Day is here. But now we’re creeping closer to March and we’re here to tell you, “Don’t give up.” You can still achieve the job goals you set for yourself as the clock struck midnight and 2018 faded away. Here are some things to keep you motivated in your job search as we inch toward spring.
- Partner with a recruiter. If you feel like your job search has stalled in the first months of 2019, now is a great time to apply with an agency specializing in shipyard placements. They can work with you to find short- and long-term assignments that fit your skills and interests. These opportunities may not be available through other avenues, so don’t miss out on them.
- Use social media. Social media is also an important part of any job search. You may not think about it for manufacturing jobs, but companies who are hiring are online and you should be too. The marine industry has a presence on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook, so follow shipyards and shipping companies to learn more. You may see job postings right away or at least learn more about the organizations.
- Get involved. While you’re not working, consider volunteering. It’s good for your health and also great for networking. It will also keep you fresh and engaged so you can talk about what you’re currently doing when you apply for open positions. There may be ways you can use your skills in your community.
- Help others. You should also approach your job search with a service mindset. You need to be willing to help others without expecting anything in return. For example, be a connector. When you met someone new in your professional circle, think about how they can work with others. Make these connections without any expectation of a reward for yourself.
