It’s okay that not every day is a perfect day. Bad days happen even to the best of us. But if you find that your shipyard job has more bad days than good, it might be time to reconsider your options. If you’re in a rut and can’t get out, how do you stay focused on improving your career? There are a few things you can do to improve your day and help you improve your week overall before it’s too late.
- Volunteer in your spare time. Did you know that volunteering has health benefits? People who volunteer improve their emotional and physical health. There are plenty of organizations right in your community that can use your help on projects after work hours or over the weekend. Volunteering for something you want to.
- Learn something new. One way to add excitement to your week and give you something to look forward it is to go back to school or just take a class. You can learn anything from something that will help you advance your shipyard career to a general interest you’ve always wanted to know more about.
- Talk to your boss. If you’re feeling trapped in your job, you may want to talk to your supervisor to see if there are other projects you can do in the shipyard. Or you can speak to your recruiter and discuss the options for another position that might be better for your interests. They are not your adversaries, they are your allies.
- Take a break. Many professionals don’t take their allotted vacation time. Don’t fall into that group. Time off from the job is important to allow us to rest and renew. Even just a personal day can get you on the right track to feel better about coming back in and finishing out the week strong. You can even take a break right at work. Take a walk, listen to music, or anything that will help lift your spirits.
